Bottom line - it's well worth the investment.ġ. (Remember this is an early unit we are using.) It's so close our boss is thinking about keeping the Copper Mountain VNA in the lab and buying each of us a Nano-VNA for quick and dirty checks in the field. He reported back that the Nano tracks very closely with the Copper Mountain up to around 300 MHz.

One of my engineering colleagues decided to compare it with our company's Copper Mountain VNA. The 50 ohm was a bit off, but again, considering the price point, acceptable. Speaking of that, the we checked the calibration kit I had with another kit we have. Someday I know I'm going to drop one of the calibration standards in the grass. One great advantage is the parts are small. I'm used to using N-connectors, so the SMA's seem delicate, but being careful I've had no issues. However, it's very responsive and accurate with a soft stylus, so no problems. I never use the thumb wheel - just the touch screen. Since others have focused upon what it does well, I will talk about what you might need be be careful about.

  • Displaying markers, and the impedance, VSWR, Q, equivalent capacitance/inductance etc.I purchased one of early smaller screen versions and though the unit has its quirks, it's an amazing device for the money.
  • Displaying data on multiple chart types, such as Smith, LogMag, Phase and VSWR-charts, for both S11 and S21.
  • Averaging data for better results particularly at higher frequencies.
  • Splitting a frequency range into multiple segments to increase resolution (up to >10k points).
  • Reading data from a NanoVNA - Compatible devices: NanoVNA V1 and V2.

Main development is currently done on Linux (Mint 20.3 Cinnamon) The software was written in Python on Windows, using Pycharm, and the modules PyQT5, numpy, scipy and pyserial. This software connects to a NanoVNA and extracts the data for display on a computer and allows saving the sweep data to Touchstone files. Broberg and supports both V1 and V2 hardware. NanoVNA Saver is a tool developed by Rune B.
